Meridian Energy offers two different kinds of rates for residential customers, categorised according to how much electricity you use. The first is their standard rates. These rates are available to anyone who uses over 8000 units of electricity a year (9000 in the south of the South Island). With these rates you’ll get a higher daily supply charge, and a lower per-unit charge.
The other type of rate Meridian Energy offers is their low user rate. Available to anyone who uses under 8000 units of electricity per year (9000 in the south of the South Island) this rate offers a slightly higher daily unit charge but a significantly lower daily supply charge. Meridian Energy divides its service for smaller businesses into two categories. The first is the fixed pricing scheme. For this plan, you sign up for a 3 year contract period, but your rates do not change for entirety of that billing period. The alternative is variable pricing. With this option, you won’t have a lock-in contract but your rates might change over time. The good news is that Meridian will give you 30 days notice when your rates are about to change.
Meridian Energy Agribusiness
Getting a great deal for your farm electricity is essential these days, and making the call to Electricity Monster is the first step to getting one. Meridian Energy offers two pricing schemes for agribusiness much the way they do for small business. You have the choice between variable and fixed pricing, but they also offer more options for their rural customers.
Firstly you’ll have the choice between year-round or seasonal rates. Seasonal rates, as the name suggests will change depending on the season. These may be best for dairy farmers, or irrigators or even some horticulturalists. The other option is the year-round rates. These might be what sheep and beef farmers are looking for.
